shyfoxling: interior of the 12th Doctor's TARDIS (doctor who (12's tardis))

DW premiere: We're not crying, you're crying. That is all. (Ok, not all: PETERRRR NOOO DON'T LEEEAVVVEEEEEE---!)

Also, since Class wasn't shown on BBC America until now: what is the deal with the "prom"? I thought that was such a uniquely American thing that it featured on lists of "major ridiculous mistakes to avoid if you're an American trying to write in a British fandom, because no one else does this"? I feel like I must be picturing the wrong thing.

Reader-insert fics would be a little less jarring if they didn't do that "Y/N" thing, Y/N?
shyfoxling: Things I am no longer allowed to do at Hogwarts, number 257: I will not teach Peeves to sing "Henry the 8th I am." (humor (peeves henry 8th))
( Sep. 22nd, 2016 11:39 pm)
I'm sure this is just a typo (since they spell it correctly in the next paragraph), but...

Hermione rolled her eyes. "Harry. You are marring Ron's sister. Just let Ron be your best man."

At least, I assume it's a typo. Ron might not agree.

To those who put word counts in their fic headers and/or masterlist entries, so when I'm skimming down a community or list to bookmark things for later I can easily file them into folders by size without having to open things in new tabs and use my word-counting extension on them one by one: Bless you, bless you a thousand times! (Even better if I don't have to manually add up several chapters, but at least if each chapter has a word count, I can whip out a calculator.)
shyfoxling: the Tenth Doctor, text "The Doctor would like to express his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a Dalek" (doctor who humor (ten idiot dalek))

Last night, apparently having a passing feeling of pique over how people put Rose Tyler in, like, Every Other Thing David Tennant's Ever Done, I facetiously wondered aloud, "How come it's never Rose from the Golden Girls, huh?" Then it occurred to me to think, fandom being what it is, that oh no, somebody probably had done just that. But the closest I could find on either FFN or AO3 was someone who apparently enjoyed making Leonard McCoy boink every other character they could think of, to judge from the tags, and this included Rose Nylund; so, that's Rose and a doctor, but not the Doctor. Alas.

(Not that I would actually want to read the genuine article, mind. Eep.)

Saw this meme going around my interwebs; here at this moment via [personal profile] nonelvis.

I currently have 24 works archived at the AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 24 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll tell you three things I currently like about it.

Caveat that "most recent" is somewhat misleading here, because I haven't written any fanfic in over four years. (well, ok, haven't posted; there's still my one embarrassing foray into RPF and another similarly embarrassing self-insert in a very obscure fandom that are tightly under wraps...)

Really good, recommended read, albeit probably preaching to the choir for most of you seeing this.

In editing my memories to change a keyword (which, unlike tag renaming, can only be done by editing each memory entry, as far as I know), I come across various memories of now-deleted entries and have to delete them. This made me particularly sad:

Memory deleted

The journal entry previously described as "fic: The Art of War (Severus/Sirius, smut/humour, NC-17)" has been removed from your list of memorable entries.

I think I've just got what weirds me out so much about Reader x Character fanfic: I typically can't imagine myself saying the lines and acting in the ways the "you" does. It's really jarring.
Why do people bother to follow fics on FFN that are marked "Complete"? (or equivalent on AO3, showing complete chapters like "1/1" instead of "1/?" or "1/10") Do they just not notice? Are they hoping that someday, somehow, the author might decide to continue the fic, even if it's a shortish one-shot that was written three years ago? (Actually more like pushing five, but the date actually on the fic in question on FFN is only three since I deleted and reposted a while back. It has its proper date on AO3.)

(edit: apparently DW isn't fetching the community icon and the fact that it should be struck through. maybe purged accounts are treated differently, because they're just "unregistered" from DW's perspective...?)

I mean, I'm not really surprised that it was deleted (and it must have been more than 30 days ago and I didn't notice, since it's been purged), but still, sad. Guess my collection of that (gosh I hope I have one... I usually do, though, I tend to save as things go along) will join the ranks in my "abandoned WIPs" folder.

Not sure if I really have an idea forming in my head or not, but --

If you know of or have some favorite fic which really has an "oldskool" flavor, which somehow says that thing about the zeitgeist of post-PoA or post-GoF or post-OotP or post-HBP or just-pre-DH --

And yes, of course the canon facts and fanon assumptions implemented do tend to distinguish, but though I don't wish to present myself as knowledgeable, yet somehow, there's this "flavor" of certain older fics (I've been reading a few selections of old Snack and old waves of Severus Snape Fuh-Q-Fest lately) --

Yeah, I'm partly just curious and partly may have an ulterior motive, so feel free to link things which are not Snape-related (like old Harry/Draco). Context for just when [X] was written will be helpful if not immediately apparent from the link.
